A Moment Interrupted

Tonight, I had you for but a moment,

Seconds summoned back to somewhere,

Sooner than either of us had liked,

Fleeting, tender, anticipatory gasps,

In the shadows of the night,

And we knew that in the moment,

We were loving to the end of us,

To the wistful extent of timeless lives,

Forever found in debt to fate,

To a truth, our god has blessed,

For the moments that we share,

Are lifetimes spent,

In the gasps between deep breaths.

And as time betrayed us,

And prevailing ways were damned,

The eternal verity of our love,

Found solace in tomorrow’s,

Moments yet to pass,

That those might live incessantly,

Ceaseless,

Endless hours abrading time,

Like wings caressing perpetual winds,

With no time or distance formed,

Between us,

Prospering a tenth at all.

In the months surrounding,

This moment missed,

We lean one upon the other,

To passionately receive the epoch,

Hidden in the instance,

And all it has to give,

To press against each other,

And to love where time stands still,

You and I together,

Even when the world resists,

To know we are eternal,

Each of our moments,

A lingering, star-drenched kiss,

Tiny servings of forever,

Unfolding deftly folded lifetimes,

Of a promised future bliss.
