Emotions at War
And they come for us
Like foot soldiers
Banded at the arm
Hurling cloying obscenities
Like shuriken
To dislodge us
Swiftly, from each other
These fears
Dressed in the skins
Of love-aversed lions
Appealing in semblance to reason
But they only feign sincerity
As they dance their intimidating
Hakka to hasten the sway of our resolve
They berate us, these fallacies
That portent dire need
That demand attention
Because they matter
Not in reality
And still less for immediacy’s sake
Excuses created in the minds
Of the lesser committed
Begging us questions
That we dare not contend with
But, by our strength,
We stand atop their yielded mass
To behold a horizon
That champions this past
And we smile
Your eyes, indelibly etched
In my soul
Mine peering hopelessly lost
Into the ocean of your charm
Loving, needing, wanting
To be held,
Sweetly in your enduring regard
And these emotions that I feel
I unleash
As sentries sworn to defend
To quell the uprisings
Of the veritable and false
foes that come against us
Be of great courage
For in this affray,
We shall not fall.
