A Thousand Times
In my mind I hold you close to me
Whispering my love for you one thousand times.
One thousand times I hold your hand,
And kiss your lips one thousand more.
In my heart I caress your cares away,
Like one thousand waves relieve the shore.
One thousand times in my mind,
I read you sound to sleep,
Ushering you to slumber one thousand times,
Praying God, your soul to keep.
One thousand times my fingers wend a hex,
Through the quiet of your hair.
In my mind I cast about your many dreams,
And stack them up like stairs.
One thousand times, I climb one thousand,
One by one,
So that my every breath could be a buttress,
That bears lovingly in all you long to do.
Then, one thousand times I commit my all,
To bring each one to moving truth.
In my mind one thousand times,
I lay down my cloak for you,
To keep your steps bereft of stress,
And to gird you from the wet of morning dew.
My fondest coat atop the sullied clay,
Of this, our fluid life,
One thousand times a bridge for you,
One thousand lifetimes wide.
In my mind I tease a smile from you,
By my charm, a grin one thousand times,
I lure and tickle laughs from you,
And set a thousand twinkles in your eyes.
One thousand of my most adept quips,
I play for you,
Most witty, coy, and wry.
One thousand jokes tendered,
To keep your spirits light.
In my mind, I spin you in one thousand,
Carefree pirouettes,
Ten hundred twists and saunters,
And just as many dips.
In my mind, one thousand blissful twirls,
As we dance deep into the night,
One thousand times, my best steps for you,
Or until I get it right.
If God gifts to me one thousand times,
The choice of one thousand lives with you,
One thousand times I will bless him,
For one thousand times, you, I choose.
And if he finds that extra one thousand times,
To be within his will,
Then, my plea will be once more,
A thousand thousands, still.
